Friendship - 12.11.09

Long ago a wolf went walking, thinking life as hurting, mocking,
Trust a human, happy, cheery, eating meat there at his door
Then at last the human spinning, chased him out into night dimming,
None more see that human grinning, grinning at his swinging door
Never can he return again, ever to that swinging door
A friendship he can't restore
Tame, the beast, was walking lonely, he can't survive by his only,
Trust the humans he cannot, though his stomach he can't ignore
Then one day a boy came calling, meat from his hand there was falling,
Threw it to the wolf distrusting, though distrusting wanting more
Watching boy there wary, turning, leaving through his swinging door
A friendship he may restore
As the wolf grew old and dusting, to the boy he became trusting,
Loving him forever more, he gave his love to young Victor
Domestic beast and a child, wild, playing in the weather mild,
At the wolf he looked and smiled, smiled as he fell to the grass floor
Thrilling pair, they would be friends for now and forever more
Friendship, what need to restore?
